Welcome our New Student Cantor Amanda Kleinman

Amanda Kleinman, our new student cantor, comes to us from the Hebrew Union College School of Sacred Music in New York City where she will begin her second year of study in a five year program. She has spent her first year, like all students, at the school’s Jerusalem campus of HUC where she studied, led parts of the High Holy Day services, weekday and Shabbat services, and chanted Torah, Haftarah, and Megillat Esther. Amanda worked this past summer at the URJ Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, Texas as the Assistant Director of Education. Rabbi Kaplan has a fondness for that camp because both of his children attended Greene Family Camp and he has served as a rabbinical advisor there. Amanda has experience as a camp counselor, Cantorial intern, and in her local Hillel chapter. Amanda graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont, with a Bachelors of Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with highest honors in history and high honors in music. Amanda has attended the Rothberg International School. Amanda has a thesis called, “The True Musical Israel of Today” Race, Nationalism, and the Search for an Authentic Jewish Music.

We welcome Amanda Kleinman to our congregation. We look forward to her participation in our High Holy Day Services, and her monthly visits where she will help lead our Sabbath services, lead education programs for our adults and children, and teach music in our Religious School and to our B’nai Mitzvah students and more. Amanda will add a wonderful Jewish musical component to our congregation. We welcome her and look forward to meeting her.
